SEASON RECAP: Grosz happy with consistency of 2020, wants more wins in 2021

HARWOOD, N.D. (September 30, 2020) – The 2020 racing season has come to an end for Lee Grosz and the No. 4J team.

In 15 events, Grosz recorded nine top five finishes and 11 top tens in 15 events. The season was highlighted by a Nebraska 360 feature win at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Neb. on June 26th when he drove from sixth to edge out Jack Dover and Ryan Roberts for the victory.

“Honestly, it really wasn’t as good as what we were shooting for. With the racing being hit and miss and the short season, it kind of threw us off a little bit,” said Grosz of his 2020 season. “We started the season kind of slow and picked up the pace a little, then we wrecked that car at Knoxville during the Nationals. Ever since we put that new car together, we have been fighting brake issues.”

Grosz was on a run of five top five finishes out of his previous six events when he was involved in that incident during his heat race at the 360 Knoxville Nationals, which not only ended his preliminary night, but his entire Nationals.

The HI-10 Sports Center / Kickass Beef Jerky team regrouped and started another streak of top five finishes, including a night against the NOSA 410s at River Cities Speedway where he passed 17 cars en route to a top five finish. Still, Grosz said there is room for improvement.

“I would say it was an okay year. Not as good of a year as we had the last couple of years. I would like to get a few more wins, but I guess one win isn’t all bad. With the amount of competition we run against, it gets harder and harder to get wins,” he said. “I feel like we were more consistent. We ran in the top five quite a bit, but when we went to Knoxville, I felt like we were off a little bit every time we went there.”

After a few weeks off, the focus will quickly shift to the 2021 season.

“We’ll start rebuilding and putting all the pieces together for next year,” said Grosz. “I’ve always wanted to get a 410 motor. That’s always been my goal and I want to do some 410 racing before I decide to hang up the helmet some day. Maybe we’ll do some searching and see what’s out there. Maybe one of these years we can do some 410 racing.”

Lee and the entire team would like to thank all their sponsors for their continued support!
