Schatz set to open 2021 season in Late Model at Wild West Shootout

FARGO, N.D. (January 9, 2021) – Ten-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car champion, Donny Schatz, will be kicking off his 2021 season tonight at the Wild West Shootout at Arizona Speedway near Phoenix, Ariz. in his Petro Stopping Center / Fastlane Car Wash No. 15 Late Model.

This will mark Schatz’s fourth appearance at the Wild West Shootout and the first since 2016. Schatz has collected three top 10 finishes at the event, which features some of the toughest Super Late Model competition seen all year.

“This has been a really long offseason for me compared to other years,” said Schatz, whose last event came at the World Finals in early November. “Usually we’re still in Australia racing at this point in the year, but I’m really excited to get our season started in Arizona with our Late Model. We didn’t get to run the Late Model very much last year so it’ll be nice to get a handful of shows under our belt right away.”

This has been the first season in nearly 20 years that Schatz hasn’t made the trip down under during the World of Outlaws’ offseason.

Schatz picked up four top 10 finishes against the World of Outlaws Late Models in 2020, including a fourth-place effort at the World Finals at the Dirt Track at Charlotte. Schatz also collected a top 10 with the NLRA Late Models during the John Seitz Memorial at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D.
