Schatz charges to two Texas top tens; tied for third in points

FARGO, N.D. (March 24, 2021) – The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series returned to Texas last weekend for the rescheduled Texas Two-Step at Cotton Bowl Speedway.

The action began on Friday night with 26 cars checked in.

Donny Schatz rolled off outside of row five for the 35-lap main event aboard the Carquest / Ford Performance No. 15. He wasn’t content back there, however, as he quickly marched his way to the front.

Making moves and avoiding trouble in front of him, Schatz found himself in seventh by lap six.

After moving up to six, Schatz made a late-race pass on Gio Scelzi to claim the final spot inside the top five.

The Greatest Show on Dirt returned to Cotton Bowl on Saturday night.

Mired in the 13th starting position for the 30-lap feature, Schatz again had to get up on the wheel to make his way forward.

Schatz took advantage of the lap 12 restart to move from 11th to eighth on the grid. The 10-time series champion then moved by Brock Zearfoss for seventh before the track locked down on the low side of the speedway.

Schatz now sits tied for third in the point standings with David Gravel, 38 markers out of the lead after eight events.

This weekend, the Outlaws head to Missouri for a pair of show. First up will be U.S. 36 Raceway in Osborn, followed by a trip to Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon for the Jason Johnson Classic.
