Pierce Scores NOSA Win Number 35 at I-90 Speedway

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (May 20, 2021) – It was a busy week for Austin Pierce as the BWWNorthern Outlaw Sprint Association (NOSA) set out on a three day swing in Southern Minnesota and South Dakota. The weekend was a success for the 2A crew, as Pierce scored his 35th NOSA win on Saturday night at I-90 Speedway in Hartford, SD.

First up was a return for Pierce to Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, MN, where Pierce made his career debut in the Vonasek No. 12 more than a decade ago.

Pierce finished fourth in his qualifying group and third in his heat race, setting him up with a 13th place spot to start the first 25-lap main event of the weekend.

A pretty humid evening caused the visor on Pierce’s helmet to fog up as he climbed up to 15th early, ending his race with just eight laps in the books.

Pierce and crew headed west on Saturday to the series debut at I-90 Speedway, where he started his night setting the new track record at the speedway with an 11.499-second lap.

After transferring through the heat race, Pierce re-drew the third starting spot for the main event, taking the lead from Nick Ranten on the 10th circuit and continuing on to his 35th career NOSA win.

“I was getting pretty tired out there to be honest,” Pierce said post-race. “It was a pretty ‘elbows up’ kind of track with a pretty tricky cushion. I got around Nick Ranten, and he was setting a pretty good pace there. Luckily, I found the top groove there in turn four, and I think that’s what won me the race. I was just searching and found that, and I knew if I got into traffic I could always move back there.”

Pierce concluded the three day swing at Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, SD with a fifth place finish in his qualifying group, followed by a heat win.

Pierce started seventh and was making a bid to improve to a podium spot, when a turn four spin caused him to move to the rear of the field. Pierce was able to rebound to a 14th place finish.

Pierce left the three day swing as the NOSA point leader, and he’ll head into Friday night’s return to River Cities Speedway one point up in his bid for a third series championship.
