Grosz races to first victory of 2021 at Jackson Motorplex

HARWOOD, N.D. (June 15, 2021) – Lee Grosz raced to his first feature win of the 2021 season on Friday night, topping a stout field of Midwest Power Series / MSTS 360s at Jackson Motorplex.
“Luck was kind of on my side. We started off the night good, setting quick time, went fourth to third in the heat, then started third in the feature. I ran third for a while then got to second, then passed Brooke (Tatnell) for the lead with about 10 to go,” said Grosz of his night.
That pass for the lead came in heavy lapped traffic and just before the yellow flag was displayed. With Grosz leading the previous lap by a mere half car length, he retained the lead for the ensuing restart.
“With about four to go I caught lapped traffic and got held up. Tatnell snuck by me, but the next lap he got into a lapped car, spun out and knocked out his front axle. We ended up getting the lead back,” he said.
With open track ahead in the closing laps, Grosz cruised to the win.
“I felt like we had a good car had the speed to be up front. It felt really good to get that first win out of the way,” said Grosz.
On Saturday, the No. 4J team made the trip to Hartford, S.D. for the Midwest Power Series / MSTS event at I-90 Speedway.
Grosz started the night by winning his heat race from the pole position. Drawing the largest number for the redraw, Grosz started the main event from the eighth position.
“I kind of went backwards at the start. I got bottled up and lost a few spots. I was able to work my way back up to sixth, but once I got up there the track rubbered up. It wasn’t a bad night overall. We had decent speed. The draw just didn’t go in our favor and track position was key.”
This weekend, a pair of Midwest Power Series / MSTS events are on tap. Grosz will head to Rapids Speedway in Rock Rapids, Iowa on Friday night before making the trip to Ogilvie (MN) Raceway on Saturday.
In his last trip to Rapids Speedway earlier this season, Grosz charged from 11th to finish sixth in the feature.
His most recent visit to Ogilvie Raceway was in 2019 where he scored a runner-up finish.
