GRAND FORKS, N.D. (June 9, 2021) – It was another strong weekend for Wade Nygaard and the Auto Finance Super Center / Your Vision Construction No. 9N team as they followed the NOSA Sprints to Devils Lake Speedway on Saturday night.
Friday’s scheduled World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series event at River Cities Speedway was canceled after time trials due to heavy and persistent rain.
Rolling off in the eighth and final starting position in his heat on Saturday at Devils Lake, Nygaard charged through the field to pick up the win. The 10-time series champion then redrew the eight pill for the feature, putting him on the outside of row four for the 25-lapper.
Nygaard moved into the top five early on before riding in the fourth position until the caution flew on lap 11. On the restart, Nygaard drove by Greg Nikitenko and teammate Brendan Mullen to move into second and attempted a slide job on leader Zach Omdahl. Running second down the back straightaway, Nygaard looked to set up on Omdahl again in turns three and four but the caution lights were displayed and negated his passes.
On the ensuing restart, Nygaard made another big move and nearly moved up to second again, but filed into third behind Zach Omdahl.
In the closing laps, both Omdahl and Nygaard closed in on Mullen for the lead. With two to go, Nygaard passed Omdahl for second and put heavy pressure on Mullen. Mullen ran a smooth final lap, however, to claim the win as Nygaard completed the 1-2 sweep for Mullen Motorsports.
Following the second-place effort, Nygaard extended his slim lead atop the NOSA point standings. He currently has a six point margin over defending series champion Jade Hastings.
This week, Nygaard returns to River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks before heading down to I-90 Speedway in Hartford, S.D. to compete in 360 action. The weekend wraps up Sunday at Huset’s Speedway with the NOSA Sprints.
