Pierce continues climb up NOSA wins list with 37th career victory
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (June 17, 2021) – Austin Pierce got back behind the wheel of the Opp Construction No. 2A last Friday night at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, where he won his third feature of the 2021 season.
Pierce started his night with the fourth-best lap in qualifying and a runner-up finish in his heat race, sending him to the front stretch for the evening’s redraw.
Pierce rolled off for the 25-lap main event in the third spot and followed early leader, Shane Roemeling.
Pierce, using the low line of the quarter-mile Bullring to perfection, passed Roemeling down the backstretch for the lead on the fifth lap.
Pierce had a straightaway lead erased due to a red with 13 laps remaining but continued to lead on the ensuing restart.
Pierce made his way through lapped traffic late in the race and held off Nick Omdahl on a green-white-checkered restart to win his 37th NOSA feature of his career.
“I knew there was a good top and bottom groove,” Pierce said postrace. “I figured maybe the second and third place cars were gonna try and make a run down there, so I just had to give it all I had around the top. At the end, I didn’t know where anyone was, so I decided to take the low line and block on the last corner.”
On how he feels the season is going so far, Pierce said, “I just hope it keeps getting faster and faster, and when the Outlaws come back, I hope we have it really dialed in, and maybe we can give those guys a run for their money.”
Pierce will go for win number four of the year on Friday night as the 2A team will return to River Cities for another week of NOSA action.
