GRAND FORKS, N.D. (July 22, 2021) – Austin Pierce won his series-leading fourth Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprints feature of the season last Friday night at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, as he closes in on becoming the fourth driver to win 40 features with the series.
Friday night at River Cities, Pierce started ninth in his heat race as the series ran the passing points format with the World of Outlaws Late Model series in town.
Austin climbed up to fifth in the eight-lap heat race, earning enough points to make it into the inversion draw. With a ten car invert, Pierce was slated to start in the third starting spot in the 25 lap main event.
Pierce eventually started on the pole due to a jump by the original pole sitter on the initial start. Pierce took the lead early, moving up to the cushion a few laps into the race.
Pierce continued to lead through the first 15 laps, which went caution free, and held off Jade Hastings through a red flag with ten to go, and two cautions late in the race to score his fourth win of the year, and 39th with NOSA.
“I kinda saw someone poking their nose,” Pierce said about Hastings’ attempts at the lead post race. “A black car was all I saw. I didn’t know if it was Jade, [Blake] Egeland, or who, but I kinda figure it would be Jade coming at the end. He put on a good race, and made me work for it on the restart. We’re just glad to be able to restart on the outside, I think that’s what won me the race, cause Jade had a similar car. If we can pick up our 40th win here before the season’s done, that would make it a successful year for us.”
This week Pierce and the 2A team will try for that 40th career win with the NOSA Sprints at River Cities on Friday night.
