Re-Mark-able Return! Dobmeier claims back-to-back wins in first weekend of action

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (July 14, 2021) – It had been 370 days since Mark Dobmeier had turned a competitive lap behind the wheel of his Buffalo Wild Wings No. 13 Sprint Car. Finally cleared to return to action after his injury at Cedar Lake Speedway last July, Dobmeier looked as though he never left, sweeping the Wayne Anderson Cup at River Cities Speedway last week.

Dobmeier began his three-race week on Thursday with the ninth fastest lap in time trials before picking up a heat race win.

Climbing to third from sixth in the opening five laps of the 30-lap main event, Dobmeier restarted second after a lap five caution, and took second from Jade Hastings in the next five-lap stint.

Dobmeier made his way past Jack Croaker for the lead on a lap eight restart, then moved up to the cushion and pulled away from the rest of the field.

Dobmeier continued to lead despite a late caution and heavy lapped traffic to win his first feature since August 30th, 2019.

Dobmeier was understandably emotional as the crowd overwhelmingly cheered his return to victory lane. “Just to get racing was amazing,” Dobmeier said post race. “The feeling you get when you pull something like that off is just unreal. There’s no better way to honor Wayne Anderson on a night like tonight. He was an amazing guy that did a lot for Sprint Car racing in this area, and is one of the main reasons Sprint Car racing is thriving so much today. It’s just a great way to come back and to get that feeling back in the car again. Sitting still for a year, you get a little built up anger, aggression. It sure feels good to get back in and show what a great team we have.”

Dobmeier started night two of the Anderson Cup at River Cities as the quickest qualifier and a heat winner, while going on to redraw the fourth starting spot for the second 30-lap main event of the week.

Dobmeier took the lead on lap 12 with a textbook slider on Austin Pierce.

The engine started to smoke heavily late in the race, but Dobmeier continued on to win his second feature of the week.

“About halfway through, we lost a cylinder,” Dobmeier said after the race. “I felt it go down, and it was smoking a little bit. Kinda had to make the call one way or another to pull off or finish, and I decided it was an important enough race that we were gonna run it to the end, and luckily we did.”

Dobmeier made another return on Sunday night to Huset’s Speedway, his first race at the track since he won the Silver Shootout on May 13, 2017.

The six-time Huset’s champion started the night with engine problems, finishing 21st quick and fifth in his heat race.

Starting 15th in the final main event of the weekend, Dobmeier only needed six laps to move into the top 10, and continued moving forward to eighth on lap 11. Dobmeier finished in the eighth position.

This week, Dobmeier and the 13 team will run at River Cities on Friday night, and again at Huset’s on Sunday.
