Schatz consistent at Cedar Lake’s Independence Day Spectacular

FARGO, N.D. (July 5, 2021) – With the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series, time trials can often determine your fate on any given night. It’s important for a driver to turn in a strong qualifying lap to give themselves the best chance to win at the end of the night.

That’s exactly what Tony Stewart / Curb-Agajanian driver Donny Schatz did at the Cedar Lake Speedway Independence Day doubleheader last weekend. Schatz timed in fifth and third, respectively on Friday and Saturday night, which contributed to the 10-time series champion claiming a pair of heat race wins and subsequent dash appearances.

“All season long we’ve been able to find ways to be fast at the beginning of the night. Heat races, dashes, even in time trials we’ve been fast, which hasn’t always been the case,” said Schatz. “But we just seem to be struggling when it comes to the feature, especially late in the feature, which is where we used to thrive.”

In both Friday and Saturday’s features, Schatz started sixth and finished seventh.

Saturday night’s feature seemed to be the stronger of the two for Schatz as he ran much of the first half of the race inside the top five. Despite slipping back to ninth following a restart, Schatz made a late-race charge and was able to salvage a seventh-place finish at the checkers.

“This Carquest team is doing everything they can night in and night out to get us where we need to be,” continued Schatz. “I feel like we are getting better and if we can keep making small gains, that will turn into something big down the road.”

The lone event on the World of Outlaws schedule next weekend will be a trip to Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wisconsin.

Before that, however, Schatz will be making his NASCAR debut with the Camping World Truck Series at Knoxville Raceway. Schatz will make his first laps in a truck during practice on Thursday before the Truck Series’ debut event at the Sprint Car Capital of the World on Friday.

Schatz and the entire Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing team would like to thank all of their great partners for their continued support!
