Strand gears up for River Cities Speedway doubleheader

East Grand Forks, Minn. (July 6, 2021) – A rare Thursday night program at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks precedes weekly Friday night racing this week. Thursday’s Wayne Anderson Cup special for the NOSA Sprints will also highlight the Northern Late Model Racing Association. Friday’s program will be weekly WISSOTA Late Model competition at the Bullring.
Dustin Strand looked poised to capture his fifth overall win of 2021 last Friday night at River Cities. After a heat race win, Strand started on the pole for the 20-lap Late Model feature and grabbed the lead over Shane Edginton on lap one. 

Running the extreme inside groove all the way around the quarter-mile oval, Strand held a slim, yet steady lead in the early stages. 

A caution on lap six reset the field. Strand continued to lead as the race resumed but exiting turn four, Strand was hit in the right rear quarter panel. The contact forced Strand to spin and the field stacked up behind him. 

The call for the caution did not go in Strand’s favor and he was sent to the tail of the field for the restart. Strand worked his way back up the running order to salvage a ninth place finish. 

Despite finishing ninth last week, Strand still leads the River Cities Speedway Late Model points. He holds a slim four point lead over Edginton. 

Thursday will be the lone event of the weekend for the NLRA. Strand, a four-time series champion, currently sits fifth in the NLRA standings, 74 points out of the lead.
