Strand Scores Career-Best Late Model Finish With Runner-up At River Cities

By Spieker Promotions

PORTLAND, N.D. (July 14, 2021) – Jason Strand continued his rookie season behind the wheel of the North Dakota Corn Growers No. E85 Late Model last week in fine form, as a second-place run last Friday night became his best finish so far in Late Model competition.

Strand ran two races in his Late Model last week, both coming at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks. Thursday’s event was an NLRA show in conjunction with the inaugural Wayne Anderson Cup.

Strand kicked off the night charging from sixth to third in his heat race, setting up an 11th place starting spot in the 25 lap feature.

Strand was running 12th through the first five circuits around the quarter-mile Bullring, but lap six was when his charge really began, as he went from 12th to ninth during the next five lap stint.

The next ten last saw the E85 climb into the top five, as Strand ran fifth with five laps to go. Strand went on to finish in sixth.

On Friday night, Strand returned to River Cities for more weekly competition at the speedway. Strand ran second in his heat after starting fourth, earning him the eighth starting spot in the 20 lap main event.

On a lap seven restart, Strand made a power move around the top of the track to pass four cars in one lap, as he charged to the third position.

Early leader Ryan Corbett headed to the infield a few laps later, putting Strand on the rear spoiler of new race leader Cole Haugland.

Strand and Shane Edginton both passed Haugland in the waning laps, while the new lead duo worked lapped traffic. Strand reeled Edginton back in but ran out of time, finishing the race in the second spot, a new career high.

Strand has not finished outside the top six in his last four Late Model starts.

Strand ended his weekend at Buffalo River Speedway in Glyndon, MN running Jory Berg’s backup Boxcar Brand Midwest Mod, but mechanical woes continued in that mount, as Strand ended the night with a DNF.

This week Strand will head back to the Grand Forks bullring for Friday night racing.
