GRAND FORKS, N.D. (July 14, 2021) – Austin Pierce continued his 2021 campaign last week with two events at River Cities Speedway, which hosted the inaugural Wayne Anderson Cup, where Pierce chalked up two more top fives.
Pierce began the two-night special at River Cities on Thursday night having to rebound from not getting a lap scored in qualifying. He finished fifth after starting in the eighth and final spot in his heat race.
Starting deep in the field in the first 30-lap feature of the week, Pierce made eight passes in the opening six laps to move into seventh.
Pierce spent the last half of the race exchanging fourth and fifth with Wade Nygaard. The pair swapped those spots a total of five times in the final 15 laps of the race.
Pierce finished in the fifth spot, passing ten cars during the 30 lap race.
On Friday night, Pierce returned to River Cities for the second night of the Anderson Cup, and started his night as the second quickest qualifier.
Finishing sixth in his heat race was good enough to make the redraw for the main event, where he drew the pole position for the second 30 lap feature of the week.
Pierce led the opening 11 laps before he was caught and passed by eventual winner Mark Dobmeier. Pierce finished the race in the third spot.
Other than a DNF on May 28, Pierce has finished no worse than fifth in the seven races he’s completed in 2021 at River Cities. Those results have him in the points lead by three points over Brendan Mullen and four over Wade Nygaard.
Pierce will continue his pursuit of another River Cities title this Friday night, as the NOSA Sprints run alongside the World of Outlaws Late Model Series.
