Dobmeier collects $10k at Huset’s, Governor’s Cup title

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (August 5, 2021) – It was a weekend to remember for the Dobmeier Racing team last weekend as Mark Dobmeier collected a Governor’s Cup feature win at Dacotah Speedway with the NOSA Sprints and the overall Governor’s Cup title, before collecting a $10,000 payday at Huset’s Speedway on Sunday. In three features last weekend, Dobmeier finished no worse than second.

In three features last weekend, Dobmeier finished no worse than second.

The weekend started on Friday night in Mandan, N.D. for night one of the Governor’s Cup with the Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprints. Dobmeier started fifth on the grid and finished second to Brendan Mullen.

Saturday’s feature shaped up similarly as Dobmeier found himself chasing Mullen again in the closing stages. Dobmeier was all over Mullen with two laps to go as the lead duo nearly went four wide in lapped traffic as they passed under the white flag. Dobmeier completed a slide job for the lead exiting turn two, but Mullen came back with a cross over down the back stretch.

In a drag race back to the flagstand, Dobmeier edged out Mullen by a half car length in a thriller.

“Brendan has had a lot of speed lately and has won a lot of NOSA shows. We both started on the front row and I think everybody knew it was going to be a good race to the end. Late in the race, we had some lapped traffic come into play and I knew that would be my only chance to make something happen. We were able to sneak by him on the last lap and fend him off at the checkers,” said Dobmeier.

The Buffalo Wild Wings team made the six hour haul to Brandon, S.D. overnight for Sunday’s Folkens Brothers Trucking Bull Haulers Brawl at Huset’s Speedway.

There was no doubt that Dobmeier was the class of the field Sunday as the six-time Huset’s Speedway track champion led all 25 circuits en route to his 68th career win at the speedway and first since May 2017.

“We’ve been picking up speed every night,” he said. “We really found our speed last week. I feel bad because the driver screwed up last week. My elbows were up and we were ready to come back and win this big one.”

Dobmeier took the win by over 1.5 seconds over Jack Dover. The win was Dobmeier’s fourth through his first 10 starts of the season.

This weekend, a NOSA doubleheader is on tap with racing at River Cities Speedway on Friday and a special at Buffalo River Speedway in Glyndon, Minn. on Sunday.
