GRAND FORKS, N.D. (August 9, 2021) – For the third straight Friday night that the Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprints were at River Cities Speedway, Austin Pierce parked his Opp Construction / Lithia Ford No. 2A in victory lane.
Pierce had to come from deep in the field starting ninth, but he worked his way into the top five by lap 11 of 30.
“My expectations weren’t that high going into the feature starting ninth,” said Pierce after the race. “I figured with how many quality cars were ahead of us, it would be tough to pull off a win. Once the race got going, the car started working really well. Once I got to third, I knew I had a chance at winning. I just put my mind to it and went after it.”
Pierce moved into a podium position at the halfway point and set his sights on Mark Dobmeier and Nick Ranten. After moving past Ranten, Pierce went after Dobmeier for the lead.
Dobmeier had a mechanical failure that took him out of contention for the win and gave Pierce the lead with eight to go.
Pierce went on to pick up the win by nearly four seconds over Ranten.
“It was a good race and a good win for our team starting ninth. Being able to win one of the Wayne Anderson Cup events is really awesome,” said Pierce.
Pierce now sits at 41 career NOSA wins, nine behind Lou Kennedy Jr. for third on the all-time wins list.
“Our goal was to hit 40 this year, but now we are shooting for 50,” said Pierce. “That is pretty unrealistic to do this year but hopefully next year we can get that. That would be a big milestone. There are so many strong drivers and teams here, even to win one race a year is tough to do.”
