GRAND FORKS, N.D. (September 9, 2021) – Austin Pierce parked the Opp Construction No. 2A in victory lane at River Cities Speedway for the fifth week in a row last Friday night. Pierce had to hold off a hard charging Mark Dobmeier for his eighth win of the 2021 campaign.
It was track championship night last Friday at River Cities, with the heat races lined straight up by track points. This gave Pierce a pole position start in the first heat race of the evening, as he entered the night as the track points leader.
Pierce won his heat, earning the pole position again for the 25 lap main event.
Pierce led from the start, and through a caution period with two laps in the books. Pierce continued to lead as the leaders started working lapped traffic.
Traffic slowed Pierce’s pace, however, allowing Dobmeier to catch up to Pierce for the lead. Dobmeier took the lead briefly on lap 14, but Pierce was able to regain the lead with a slide job in turn four with ten to go.
Pierce had to hold off Dobmeier following a trio of restarts with six laps remaining, and a pair with four left to win his fifth feature in a row at River Cities, and eighth of 2021.
“It’s an unbelievable feeling,” Pierce said on getting his fifth win in a row post race. “To win one, let alone five in a row, it’s pretty surreal. I have to thank my crew for getting it dialed in. I was using the top of one and two, and the bottom of three and four to be honest. Hats off to the [track] crew guys for an awesome track.”
This week, Pierce and the 2A team will set their sights on a Wayne Anderson Cup championship. Pierce will head into the race seven points behind Brendan Mullen for the Cup Championship.
The entire APR crew would like to thank their sponsors for their continued support!
