Schatz scores podium in Outlaws’ debut at Vado

FARGO, N.D. (March 30, 2022) – The World of Outlaws made their first visit to the state of New Mexico for the first time since 2008 and made their first-ever trip to the state-of-the-art Vado Speedway Park last night in a rare Tuesday night event.

Schatz was the only competitor in the field who had previously competed at Vado – he scored a top 10 run in his Schatz Crossroads Rocket XR1 Late Model this January during the Wild West Shootout.

Schatz was quick out of the gate in time trials, going fifth quick which led to a heat race win and a third-place run in the dash.

In the feature, Schatz was a contender for the win for the majority of the 30 lapper. As leaders Brad Sweet and Sheldon Haudenschild encountered lapped traffic early on, Schatz closed to within striking distance.

The driver of the Carquest / Ford Performance No. 15 peaked under Haudenschild on a couple of occasions, but the low side of the speedway didn’t have the traction of the dominant cushion.

Schatz crossed the line in third to record his third top five of the season and jump up to fifth in the standings.

“(The track) was pretty racy all night, but starts were key. These Carquest guys did a great job,” said Schatz after the race. “The short tracks haven’t been our strong suit. We’ve tried so many things and changed so many things… We’ve got a ton of power and tonight we actually got it to the ground in a good way so hats off to this crew.

“The car got better and better as the race went on. At the end, I felt like Brad and Sheldon made a couple of mistakes but we just couldn’t capitalize on them. You need to be right there when those things happen. We were tonight and we can fine tune from there.”

Last weekend Schatz wrapped up the West Coast swing with a sixth-place run at Bakersfield and a 10th place finish at Perris Auto Speedway.

Next up, the Outlaws head to Lawton Speedway in Oklahoma on Friday before returning to the birthplace of the series, Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas.

Schatz and the entire Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing team would like to thank all of their great partners for their continued support!
