Schatz looks to carry momentum into Ohio
FARGO, N.D. (May 19, 2022) – Donny Schatz raced to a podium finish Tuesday night at New Jersey’s Bridgeport Motorsports Park with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series. The third-place run in the feature capped off a strong night for the Tony Stewart Racing No. 15 team that saw them time in second quick and win both their heat and the dash.
“It’s progress,” said Schatz on the front straightaway after the race. “It feels good to start up (front) and race up (front). This Carquest team did a great job and gave me a good car. With a couple more laps there, we maybe could have gotten by the 57 (of Kyle Larson) and gotten second, but the race was over at that point and it was a good night overall.”
The third-place run at Bridgeport comes off a pair of solid outings for Schatz which included a fourth-place run from the eighth starting position at Williams Grove Speedway on Saturday and a charge from 21st to 13th at the Gettysburg Clash at Lincoln Speedway last Wednesday.
Schatz now sits in a tie with Spencer Bayston for sixth in the standings, only 126 markers out of the lead.
The series heads to Ohio this weekend with dates at Attica Raceway Park and Sharon Speedway.
If there is any track at which Schatz could return to victory lane, Attica could very well be it. Over the last four starts, Schatz has three podium finishes including a win in 2018. The only race he didn’t score a podium during that stretch came last year when he went from 22nd to fourth to earn the night’s KSE Hard Charger award.
Schatz has four career wins at Attica and an average finish of 3.2 over his last nine starts at the speedway.
