Schatz wheels to podium finish at Beaver Dam
FARGO, N.D. (June 20, 2022) – Donny Schatz’s strong runs are becoming more consistent as the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series schedule hits the summer months. Schatz put on an impressive drive on Saturday night to capture hard-earned podium finish at Beaver Dam Raceway’s $20,000-to-win JB Memorial.
Starting eighth on the grid, Schatz slipped back as far as 11th early in the going as the car had a full fuel load on board. However, as the race went on and the setup played more into Schatz’s hand, the 10-time series champion began to shine.
Near the midway point, Schatz scratched and clawed his way into the top five, but he wasn’t done yet. With two to go, Schatz was running fourth behind Jacob Allen when the caution was displayed.
On the ensuing restart, Schatz hit the top side of the speedway and flew around the Shark Racing teammates of Allen and Logan Schuchart to move into second.
Schatz crossed the line in second to claim his third top five finish over the last five races.
“The car was really good after we got five or 10 laps into the race,” said Schatz on the front stretch after the feature. “The Advanced Auto Parts guys did a great job. This is a brand new motor from Ron Shaver. We’ve been trying and trying with a lot of things and we’ve got something now that moves exceptionally well with my foot so that makes me very happy. That showed tonight.”
On Friday night, Schatz raced to a ninth place finish in the feature.
Next up for the Advanced Auto Parts / Ford Performance No. 15 team is a big week at Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, S.D. Four consecutive nights of racing at the three-eighths mile oval will kick off on Wednesday with the rescheduled event that was postponed due to rain on June 5th before the three-night High Bank Nationals takes place Thursday through Saturday. The event culminates with the $100,000-to-win main event on Saturday night.
Entering the big weekend, Schatz sits sixth in the point standings, 148 points out of the lead.
