Joey nearly scores World of Outlaws top 10; Kelsi collects pair of top fives
EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (July 20, 2022) – It was a strong weekend for both Joey and Kelsi Pederson last weekend at their home track, River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks. Joey was in action with the World of Outlaws Late Models on Friday and Kelsi ran both Friday and Saturday night with the Minn-Kota Lightning Sprints.
Joey turned in a strong performance against some of the country’s best Late Model drivers as the World of Outlaws made their annual stop at the Bullring. He began the night racing from fourth to second in his heat race to put himself in the eighth starting spot for the big 40-lap A-main.
Joey ran inside the top 10 for the first 30 circuits around the three-eighths mile oval, but a few late race restarts shuffled up the running order and Joey crossed the line in 11th.
That 11th place effort made Pederson the night’s highest finishing local Late Model driver in the main event.
A strong field of Lightning Sprints were checked in at River Cities for their doubleheader weekend. On Friday night, Kelsi finished second in her heat and ran fourth in the feature.
She also scored a top five finish on Saturday, but had to work a little harder to do so. After starting ninth on the grid, Kelsi wheeled her way forward to finish finish. Advancing four positions during the 20-lapper made her the night’s hard charger.
This weekend, just Joey will be in action as there are no Street Stocks on the schedule at River Cities Speedway on Friday. The Pederson family will then take the rest of the weekend off.
Joey currently sits third in the River Cities Speedway Late Model point standings, just 12 points behind leader Brad Seng.
