Schatz turns in strong runs during Cedar Lake doubleheader
FARGO, N.D. (July 5, 2022) – The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series returned to the upper Midwest over the Independence Day weekend with a pair of shows at New Richmond, Wisconsin’s Cedar Lake Speedway.
Donny Schatz and the Tony Stewart Racing team were strong all weekend.
Schatz looked poised to pick up the win on Friday night as he led laps three through 21 of the 35-lapper. Schatz built up a comfortable lead by the midway portion of the event, but the low side of the speedway became the quick lane. Being all by himself out front, Schatz wasn’t able to search for lanes around the speedway and remained loyal to the high side.
That allowed Jacob Allen to sneak by and steal the point. Schatz went on to finish the race in fourth. Schatz’s Friday night performance was also highlighted by timing in fifth quick overall, and winning his heat race and the dash.
Schatz’s speed continued through Saturday’s event as he timed in second quick before driving away with another heat race win. A tough pill draw put Schatz at the back of the field for the dash and resulted in a sixth-place run.
The driver of the Carquest / Ford Performance No. 15 ran eighth early on but made a late-race charge into the top five. However, a restart with three to go shuffled up the running order and Schatz was forced to settle for a seventh-place finish.
Going into this weekend’s races at 34 Raceway in Burlington, Iowa on Friday and Wilmot (WI) Raceway on Saturday, Schatz sits sixth in the standings, 160 points out of the lead.
Schatz and the entire Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing team would like to thank all of their great partners for their continued support!
