Strand gears up for big Modified, Late Model weekend
EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (July 19, 2022) – After a solo event last weekend, Dustin Strand is ready for a big weekend of action in both his Millenium SRT Late Model and Modified. The action will kick off on Thursday at Norman County Raceway as the Advantage RV Modified Tour heads to the Ada, Minnesota three-eighths mile. Strand was scheduled to run his Late Model at Norman County last week, but afternoon rain showers canceled the event.
On Friday, Strand will be pulling double duty as the Advantage RV Modified Tour heads north to River Cities Speedway. Friday will also be an NLRA Late Model points event.
Racing will continue Saturday for the No. 71 team, however the track is to be determined. Both NLRA special at Devils Lake Speedway and the Advantage RV Modified Tour date at Greenbush Race Park are on the table.
Last year’s RV Mod Tour event at Norman County was one to forget as Strand got upside down in a big way during heat race action. The 2020 edition of the event went much better as the East Grand Forks driver ran second to Dan Ebert in what was a stacked 21-car field.
Since 2019, Strand has four Modified feature wins at his home track, River Cities Speedway, backed by a pair of runner-up finishes. Coming into this weekend’s action, Strand has three runner-up finishes in Modified competition in seven starts. All three of those second-place runs have come at Greenbush Race Park.
Last week, Strand was in action with the World of Outlaws Late Models at River Cities. After timing in 12th quick in Group B and a sixth place run in his heat, Strand was forced to scratch from the event early with engine troubles.
Despite those issues last Friday, Strand is still riding momentum from a strong weekend of action July 8th and 9th.
Strand picked up second place finishes in both of his cars; Friday night at River Cities Speedway in the Late Model and Saturday at Greenbush Race Park in the Modified.
Strand started seventh on the grid for the 20-lap Late Model feature at River Cities and was able to slice his way through the field during the first half of the race. The driver of the Walhalla Building Center Inc. No. 71 moved into a podium position on lap 11 before moving past Tom Corcoran for the second spot.
Strand’s runner-up finish in the Modified at Greenbush came after a heat race win and starting fifth on the grid for the feature.
