Schatz strong in rain-soaked Jackson Nationals

FARGO, N.D. (August 15, 2022) – The hype and excitement of the three-night Jackson Nationals was put on hold for two days as Mother Nature washed out both Thursday and Friday night’s race. That set up a big Saturday with Friday night’s program rescheduled for Saturday at noon along with the headlining $25,000-to-win Jackson Nationals finale later that evening.

Typically, afternoon racing on a dirt track can be a rubbered-up, dusty affair, but the crew at Jackson Motorplex did a fantastic job prepping the race track for the sunlit show.

Donny Schatz timed in fourth quick in Group A, which led to a runner-up finish in the heat and a spot in the Dash.

Following a third place finish in the dash, Schatz lined up inside row two for the feature.

Schatz ran third early on, but slid back to fifth around the midway point. On the restart with eight laps to go, Schatz made a bold move to go to the inside of Gio Scelzi and Jacob Allen and cleared both drivers to regain the third position.

Allen came charging back at Schatz, taking back third, as Schatz went on to finish fourth.

Following the afternoon show, the Carquest team went to work on the Tony Stewart Racing No. 15 to do maintenance on what they could during the quick turnaround for the evening show.

Schatz timed in 10th quick and ran third in his heat which was good enough to get him into the King of the Hill pole shuffle, which lined him up sixth on the grid for the feature.

The final boxscore will show Schatz started and finished sixth, but he did have a nice rally late in the race to record that sixth place effort.

While running eighth, Schatz worked his way by Gio Scelzi and championship points leader Brad Sweet to move into the sixth spot.

Schatz currently sits fifth in the point standings after two nights at Jackson Motorplex.

Next up, the Greatest Show on Dirt heads to North Dakota for the Second Leg of the Northern Tour at River Cities Speedway and the Duel in the Dakotas at Schatz’s home track, Red River Valley Speedway.
