Strand gears up for big NLRA weekend

EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (August 25, 2022) – Another big weekend of Late Model racing lies ahead for Dustin Strand as the NLRA Late Models will co-headline two nights of action with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series.

Up first will be Friday night’s event at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, followed by the NLRA’s lone trip of the season to the three-eighths mile oval of Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo.

Strand has three career victories at Red River Valley Speedway. Two came in the Late Model on July 17, 2016 and August 25, 2012 and one in the Modified on August 4th, 2010.

Since the track was re-opened in 2016, Strand hasn’t finished outside of the top five in Late Model action at Red River Valley – a span that covers four starts. Most recently, he finished fourth in the NLRA feature last year.

Strand will be looking to continue the momentum of a strong weekend last weekend.

On Friday night, Strand led laps during the Late Model feature and bought the Millenium SRT No. 71 home in second. After started on the outside of row two, Strand quickly found himself up front and battling Tom Corcoran for the lead.

Strand charged past the Late Model veteran to take the point on lap two. He would then lead the next six circuits before Aaron Turnbull snuck by to take the lead.

Strand did not fade back, however, as he kept heavy pressure on Turnbull all race long. Around the midway point, it became a three-car race for the lead as Shane Edginton entered the fray. At the checkers, Strand came home second to record his 13th overall top five finish of the season.

Big money was up for grabs the following night at Devils Lake Speedway for the Golden Hammer Classic.

Strand started 14th on the grid for the 40-lap, $5,000-to-win feature. Unfortunately, he suffered right front suspension damage early, but was still able to move forward. He worked his way into the top five, nearly cracking a podium position, but was shuffled back after a few late race cautions to finish seventh.

If you can’t make it to the track this weekend, both events from River Cities and Red River Valley Speedway will be live on DirtVision.com.
