Joey captures Track Championship in thriller, Kelsi & Tucker both score wins!
EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (September 7, 2022) – It was a banner weekend for the Pederson Racing camp as Joey scored the River Cities Speedway Late Model track championship on Friday- the fifth of his career and his first since 2013. Kelsi and Tucker also visited victory lane over the weekend.
Joey’s track championship came with no shortage of excitement and drama. Having to beat Brad Seng straight up for the title, the two drivers shared the front row for the 20-lap Late Model feature.
Lance Schill took the early lead as both Brad and Joey swapped positions inside the top five with Brody Troftgruben also in the mix.
A caution with two laps to go set up a thrilling finish with Schill leading Seng and Pederson.
As the race resumed, Pederson ran the cushion in turns one and two to get by Seng down the backstretch while simultaneously setting up Schill for a pass for the lead. Pederson went low in turns three and four and executed a textbook slidejob to take the point.
Schill made contact with Pederson’s left rear on the front stretch as the field took the white flag, instantly causing a flat on the Dahlstrom Motors No. 7P.
Schill slid Pederson in turn one as Pederson tried a crossover exiting the corner, but had no momentum with the flat left rear tire. From there, Pederson went into defense mode to hold off Seng in the final half lap.
Seng suffered a push in the last set of corners, breaking the run he had on Pederson as Pederson won the race for the championship back to the checkers.
Pederson was also in action with the NLRA at Greenbush on Saturday and Sunday, finishing second and fourth, respectively.
Pederson looks to keep that momentum going into this weekend’s John Seitz Memorial at River Cities Speedway. Pederson only has one finish outside of the top five in Wissota action since July 23rd. During that stretch he has recorded a feature win and five runner-up finishes.
Pederson has one of the most memorable runs in Seitz Memorial history, charging from 23rd to finish second in a photo finish in 2014.
Tucker keeps winning!
Tucker kept his torrid pace up all weekend as well, picking up wins at River Cities Speedway on Friday – his third in-a-row at his home track – and at Greenbush Race Park on Sunday.
The lone race of the weekend that he did not win was Saturday night at Greenbush. During that feature, he charged from 13th to round out the podium in third.
Tucker now has 11 feature wins on the season heading into the big weekend at River Cities.
Kelsi returns to Victory Lane!
Kelsi topped a strong field of Minn-Kota Lightning Sprints on Saturday at Greenbush Race Park to score her third win of the season. She took the lead on lap six and led the remainder of the 20-lapper, taking the win by over two seconds.
She capped the weekend off with a fourth place run on Sunday.
She has now picked up three consecutive top fives in her last three starts.
