Strand set to chase elusive Seitz Memorial title

EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (September 7, 2022) – It’s one of the biggest Wissota Late Model events of the year, drawing the biggest names and the best talent to Grand Forks from across the upper Midwest. It’s the John Seitz Memorial and it’s happening this weekend at River Cities Speedway.
Dustin Strand will not only be one of the top local favorites, but one of the top overall contenders heading into the weekend.

Strand is coming off a strong month of August in his Late Model that included two feature wins – one each at Greenbush Race Park and River Cities Speedway – and a runner-up finish at River Cities.

That speed carried into last Friday’s event at River Cities, where Strand was a player for the lead and the win.

Starting seventh for the 20-lapper, Strand had his work cut out to get his way to the front.

The driver of the Keewatin Truck Service / Doubles Deuce Bar & Grill No. 71 took advantage of an early race caution to work his way into the top five. As the race resumed, Strand got by Brody Troftgruben before flying by track championship contenders Joey Pederson and Brad Seng to take over second.

From there, Strand set his sights on leader Lance Schill.

Strand quickly caught Schill and was setting up to pass the No. 17 running his patented high line when the right rear tire dipped off the edge of the track. That forced the car to slide exiting the corner where the turn four wall quickly approached.

Strand made heavy contact with the wall, causing significant damage to what appeared to be the fastest car on the track.

Strand limped the car back to the pits as his night was over.

The Millenium Chassis / SRT Specialties crew has the car fixed up and ready to go for Thursday’s Prelude to the Johnny and NLRA season championship event.

Strand will also be competing in his Wissota Modified during the Seitz Memorial on Thursday and Friday, tentatively.
