Schatz among leading Outlaw drivers at Port Royal

FARGO, N.D. (October 11, 2022) – Donny Schatz and the Greatest Show On Dirt continued their final swing of the season through Pennsylvania over the weekend with a pair of shows at the fast and exciting half-mile of Port Royal Speedway.

The PA Posse had the home track advantage once again, but Schatz was among the top Outlaw drivers both Friday and Saturday night.

On Friday, Posse drivers swept the top three positions with Outlaw regulars David Gravel and Schatz finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.

Schatz started third in the lineup for the 25-lap feature and briefly held second as the race went green. As the race strung out he filed into third for a majority of the race before coming home in fifth.

Schatz was also strong on Saturday night, battling with Gravel, series point leader Brad Sweet, Lance Dewease and Danny Dietrich throughout the feature for a spot inside the top five.

At the checkers, Schatz finished fourth and was again the second-highest finishing Outlaw driver to Gravel.

Those two solid finishes pushed him past Sheldon Haudenschild and into fourth in the point standings. Schatz had been stalking Haudenschild in the standings for several weeks. He was just four points behind Haudenschild entering the Keller Auto Speedway event on Sept. 16 but DNF’d night, which allowed Haudenschild pull away. Since then, Schatz went to work slowly erasing his deficit to the driver of the No. 17.

Schatz is now 90 points behind Carson Macedo for third with six races remaining.

The Outlaws will return to PA on October 22nd for the National Open make-up, which was postponed due to rain on October 1st.

This weekend, the series returns to the Midwest for the final time with visits to I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Nebraska on Friday and a spot at Lakeside Speedway near Kansas City on Saturday.

This weekend will be the final chapter of racing ever for I-80 Speedway; a track that has hosted the World of Outlaws since the mid-1990s. Schatz has been strong at the big, fast 4/10th mile throughout his career, but captured his first career win last year in his 28th start at the speedway.

Over the past five events, dating back to 2014, Schatz has the win in 2021, three runner-up finishes, and an average finish of 2.8.

Lakeside Speedway has also been kind to the 10-time champ. Schatz recorded the first win for the FPS 410 engine on October 19, 2019, which was his second career win at the speedway.

Since 2015, which spans seven events, Schatz has collected a pair of wins and five podium finishes. His average finish over that time is a stout 3.2.

Schatz and the entire Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing team would like to thank all of their great partners for their continued support!
