Schatz passes 13 cars in feature action during final Midwest swing

FARGO, N.D. (October 19, 2022) – It was an 18-hour drive from Port Royal Speedway in Pennslyvania to I-80 Speedway near Lincoln, Nebraska for the Tony Stewart / Curb-Agajanian Racing No. 15 team last week for the final Midwest races of the 2022 season.

Friday’s event at I-80 was also the 33rd and final visit by the World of Outlaws.

The track was very heavy at the beginning of the night, but thanks to diligent track work, the groove was able to widen out come feature time.

Schatz had to dig out of a hole early, timing in 12th quick in Flight A of qualifying. He transferred into the feature by way of a fourth-place run in his heat and lined up 15th for the 30-lap feature.

Schatz was aggressive on restarts which helped him move up in the running order. The still very fast racing surface made it difficult to pass once cars reached full speed.

The driver of the Carquest / Ford Performance No. 15 advanced six positions to finish ninth.

His career stats at I-80 Speedway include 20 top 10 finishes, seven top fives, one win and 22 laps led in 33 starts. His lone win came last year on August 27th when he started fourth and led 20 laps.

On Saturday night, the series headed south to Kansas City, Kansas for the annual stop at Lakeside Speedway.

Qualifying again set the team back as a 19th-place run in time trials set up a fourth-place finish in the heat and a 15th-place start in the feature.

Despite that, Schatz definitely had speed during the feature.

Schatz went to work on picking up positions at the drop of the green flag, being one of the few cars working the low side of the speedway.

The North Dakota driver went on to gain seven spots to finish eighth, missing out on the night’s KSE hard charger by one spot.

Schatz still sits fourth in the standings, 258 markers out of the lead.

This weekend, the series will head back to Pennsylvania for the National Open make-up at Williams Grove Speedway.

Schatz and the entire Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing team would like to thank all of their great partners for their continued support!
