MULLEN LOOKING AHEAD TO KING OF THE WINGS AT RIVER CITIES
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (July 12, 2023) – Brendan Mullen returned to action with the Northern Outlaw Sprint Association last Friday night in the Simplot / State Bank of Fairmont No. 11M and challenged for the win early on Mid-Season championship night at River Cities Speedway.
With mid-season traditionally set up by the season point standings, Mullen, who entered the night third in the standings, lined up on the outside of the front row in his heat race, finishing second.
Lining straight-up by heat finish, Mullen started on the inside of row two for the third Wayne Anderson Cup qualifier of the season. Mullen battled Jade Hastings for second in the first ten lap stint of the race, taking the spot after a big run off turn two on the seventh circuit of the ‘Bullring’.
Mullen then tracked down race leader Mark Dobmeier in lapped traffic before the first caution of the race with 21 laps left. This hurt Mullen’s momentum, allowing Hastings back by for second, then Austin Pierce for fourth.
Due to a restart violation credited to Pierce on the final restart with 14 to go, Mullen moved back to Dobmeier’s inside on the next attempt to go back green.
Mullen went for a slide for the lead but fell to third. In a three-lap period around the ten to go mark, Mullen lost three spots as the track slicked off and started to rubber. In the closing laps, Mullen remained and finished in the sixth spot.
Mullen and crew headed back to South Dakota’s Huset’s Speedway on Sunday night, but mechanical woes ended their night early.
This week, Mullen returns to River Cities for the second running of the King of the Wings where the NOSA Sprints take on Wisconsin’s Interstate Racing Association. Mullen improved from a 13th place finish on night one last year to finish fourth on night two. He will also be in action on Thursday night at I-94 emr Speedway in Fergus Falls, MN.
Mullen, the 2021 series champion, heads into the weekend third in the NOSA Standings.
