MULLEN TO WRAP UP NOSA SEASON AT RIVER CITIES
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (September 14, 2023) – Brendan Mullen heads back to River Cities Speedway at the helm of the Royal River Casino & Hotel / 605 Lending No. 11M for the final time this season and for the first time in two weeks when he won the Wayne Anderson Cup finale at the speedway which served as his second triumph at the high-banked quarter-mile Bullring during his 2023 campaign.
Last weekend, Mullen and crew headed to Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, WI to run the Jerry Richert Memorial with the Interstate Racing Association, his first race with the Wisconsin and Illinois based 410 series since he scored two podiums in three nights with the series at the I-94 and River Cities Speedways back in July.
On a night that was slowed due to multiple rain delays, qualifying was cancelled with heats lined up by pill draw. Mullen finished second in his heat and qualified for the dash where he started and finished fifth.
Mullen started ninth in the main event and climbed to as high as seventh early on in the 30-lap race, but a restart on lap five cost him four spots, falling to eleventh. Mullen climbed back into the top ten on a lap eight restart, making another pass one lap later to take ninth.
Following a 20-lap green flag run, Mullen again was hurt by a restart with 3 laps remaining, falling to 14th, but continued to battle in the closing laps to finish 11th.
Mullen’s appearance at Cedar Lake marked his 53rd race night of the 2023 season, passing last season’s total of 52 and tying his high-water mark of events entered in a season two seasons ago as he also raced in 53 events in 2021. Should Friday’s event go ahead as scheduled, it will be Mullen’s 54th start of the year, the most races he’s run in a season to date.
Friday’s event at River Cities sees Mullen return to the track as the most recent winner after leading all 30 laps of the Wayne Anderson Cup finale. He enters track championship night at the speedway third in points, 18 points back of the lead in third, which will give him a front row starting spot in his heat race Friday evening.
