TUCKER SCORES TWO PODIUMS IN MONTANA AS END OF THE SEASON NEARS
EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (October 10, 2023) – Tucker is fresh off a 20-hour round trip to Big Sky Speedway in Billings, Montana where the three-eighths mile track became the sight of the penultimate weekend in his pursuit of the WISSOTA National Street Stock championship, scoring two podium finishes in the third time zone in which he has raced in during the 2023 campaign.
Tucker was joined in Billings by Braden Brauer and Justin Vogel, the two other drivers he’s been in competition with for the national championship this season. Brauer and Vogel went head-to-head in the first heat while Tucker, who got the best draw of the trio, won the second heat from the third spot.
Tucker started on the pole of the first 20-lap main event of the weekend with Vogel and Brauer starting fourth and fifth respectively. Following an early caution for Vogel, Tucker and Robert Petroff battled for the lead until a red at the midway point.
On the restart, Vogel, who had charged back through the field, eventually took the top spot as Tucker held off Petroff for the second spot. Vogel went on to take the win and clinch the National Championship. Tucker’s second place finish, however, did add a point to his total, and took a five-point deficit for second in the standings into Saturday’s half of the double header.
Saturday night’s event was similar to Friday’s event with Tucker, Petroff, and Vogel battling for each of the podium positions, though Tucker and Vogel had to come from the fourth row at the start to get to the front.
Tucker charged from eighth to second in the opening three laps of the race and held off Vogel before a few cautions just past the midway point of the 20-lap race erased a three-and-a-half-second lead for Petroff, setting up battles for the lead on each restart that followed.
Petroff held on to the lead on each drop of the green as Tucker and Vogel battled for second. Tucker remained close in the closing laps, but finished in the third spot, his 57th top five of the season, and 65th top ten.
Tucker is still five points, which amounts to a win or second place finish, behind Braden Brauer for second with a potential of one last weekend of racing ahead.
