Strand Completes January Trip Through The Southwest

PORTLAND, N.D. (February 1, 2024) – Jason Strand’s second consecutive January trip through the Southwest is in the books as the fourth year Late Model driver competed in 12 total events in the No. E85 North Dakota Corn Utilization Council / Hatton Co-op Rocket XR1, starting at the Wild West Shootout at Vado Speedway Park in New Mexico and concluding with the Ernie Mincy Early Thaw at Central Arizona Speedway.

Strand’s first six-race mini-series saw him compete against some of the top Super Late Model talent in the country at the Wild West Shootout at Vado Speedway Park in New Mexico. Strand made the feature on the opening night, finishing inside the top 20, but was no doubt highlighted by his breakout performance in the series final night on January 20th where he finished in the eighth position in the main event.

Strand moved up from fifth to third in his heat race to grab the 11th starting spot in the 50 lap finale. Strand moved up four spots in the opening ten laps of the race and stayed inside the top ten for the duration of the feature.

Late in the race, Strand battled with World of Outlaws champions Bobby Pierce and Brandon Sheppard, passing the latter on the final circuit to grab the eighth spot at the drop of the checkers.

After making the 360 mile drive west to Central Arizona, Strand made his second consecutive appearance at the Ernie Mincy Early Thaw at Central Arizona Speedway in Casa Grande. Strand’s second six-race mini-series of the month saw Strand pass a total of 33 cars combined over the six race stretch.

Strand’s best finish was an eighth place run on night two, but arguably his best overall performance came on night four. Following his ten car improvement five nights prior, Strand sliced and diced his way through the field for the second consecutive night, passing 13 cars to finish ninth in the 25-lap feature, earning hard charger honors.

Strand’s successful southwest trip included three top-tens, including his finish between Pierce and Sheppard at the Wild West finale, and finishing a +25 during the six nights in Central Arizona.
