Another Milestone Achieved: Schatz collects 500th career Sprint Car win at Volusia
BARBERVILLE, FLORIDA (March 5, 2024) – Donny Schatz collected yet another milestone on Monday night at Volusia Speedway Park, racing to his 500th career Sprint Car feature win.
Schatz started on the outside of row two but quickly raced around Gio Scelzi and Sheldon Haudenschild to take second behind Buddy Kofoid. Schatz chased the Roth Motorsports No. 83 until misfortune struck Kofoid when he blew a tire. Schatz narrowly avoided the spinning California driver to inherit the lead for the ensuing restart.
Once out front, Schatz drove away from the rest of the field. A late caution flew with Jacob Allen’s No. 1A machine slowed, but as the race resumed, Schatz once again distanced himself.
The win was Schatz’s 312th with the World of Outlaws and despite reaching a milestone as big as 500 career Sprint Car wins, Schatz’s only focus is getting the next victory.
“I really don’t want to think about it,” Schatz said. “I feel like I’ve got a lot of years left in me. I’ve got a lot of good racing left in me because I still love to race. That’s the important part. Numbers are numbers. That’s the stuff that I’m probably going to roll over to Steve Kinser’s bus someday when we’re sitting here at Volusia watching our kids or our kids’ kids and we’ll have talks about it. But for now, it’s just a number you don’t even want to think about. I’ve been very fortunate to race with a lot of great people and have great partners behind us.”
The win for Schatz was also his 24th at Volusia Speedway Park.
Schatz and the entire Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing team would like to thank all of their great partners for their continued support – Carquest Auto Parts, Advance Auto Parts, Curb Records, Ford Performance, Sage Fruit, Mobil 1, Absolute Automation & Security, J&J Auto Racing, Elliott’s Custom Trailers & Carts
