FARGO, N.D. (April 5, 2021) – It appeared as though Donny Schatz had the car to beat on Friday night at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series.
Starting on the outside of the front row for the 35-lap feature, Schatz led the opening circuit over James McFadden. Schatz then built up a comfortable lead over McFadden and Kraig Kinser until the caution flew on lap 16. On the ensuing restart, Schatz’s machine slowed considerably which drew the caution. A rare mechanical failure was the culprit and Schatz was credited with a 20th place finish.
The following night, the Outlaws were back at I-55 to wrap up the weekend. Schatz charged forward in the main event, moving from 17th to 11th.
He currently sits tied for sixth in the point standings, 122 markers out of the lead.
This weekend, Schatz will head to Kokomo Speedway and Tri-State Speedway in Indiana on Friday and Saturday.
At his most recent visit to Kokomo Speedway, Schatz finished a close second to Sheldon Haudenschild after a classic duel for the win. During that feature, Schatz led 15 of the 40 laps.
The 10-time series champion has finished either first or second in his last three trips to Kokomo, dating back to 2014, and has led a total of 52 laps in those three events.
In his eight career starts at the exciting quarter-mile, Schatz has eight top 10 finishes, five podiums and one win in 2014.
Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt is one of the few World of Outlaws tracks at which Schatz has yet to win. Schatz’s best finish at the speedway is a third-place run in 2008.
Schatz and the entire Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing team would like to thank all of their great partners for their continued support!
