Kennedy Claims Fifth Win of 2017 at River Cities!

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (May 24, 2017) – Thomas Kennedy’s torrid start to 2017 continued Friday night at River Cities Speedway as he picked up the clean sweep against the Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprint Cars.

After starting eighth in heat race number one, Kennedy charged through the field at the drop of the green flag. By lap four, Kennedy assumed the lead with a pass on Oslo, Minn. driver Trent Stengl.

From there Kennedy held off 2014 NOSA champion, Austin Pierce, to capture his fourth heat race win of the season.

During the intermission, Kennedy redrew the zero pill for the feature redraw, which put him on the pole of the 25-lap, 26-car feature.

With River Cities Speedway’s winningest driver, Mark Dobmeier, lined up right behind him, Kennedy charged into the lead on the initial start. The race was plagued with cautions early on, but on each restart, Kennedy was able to hold the lead.

In the closing laps of the main event, Kennedy had built up a full straightaway lead over Dobmeier.

The Winnipeg, Manitoba driver caught lapped traffic with four laps to go, which allowed Dobmeier to dramatically close in on Kennedy.

With two laps to go, Dobmeier peaked underneath Kennedy in turn one and pulled even with the No. 21K. Kennedy had the momentum up top, however, and managed to regain the lead.

Dobmeier was never able to mount a challenge on Kennedy on the final lap as Kennedy went on to score his second consecutive win at the bullring.

Although he isn’t running for points in any series, Kennedy currently leads both the NOSA Sprint Car and Nebraska 360 point standings heading into this weekend.
