Pierce Scores Podium Finishes at River Cities & Devils Lake!
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (June 7, 2017) – Last weekend Austin Pierce and the Lithia Ford / Opp Construction team were back in action with races scheduled at River Cities Speedway on Friday night and Devils Lake Speedway on Saturday.
After winning his heat, Austin started outside of the front row for the 25-lap Buffalo Wild Wings feature. Austin battled with Chris Ranten and Bob Martin in the opening laps before trouble ensued.
“I spun out on lap seven and had to go to the back,” said Austin. “But I was able to work my way back up to third before it was over.”
The following day Austin and the crew made their first of four trips this season to Devils Lake Speedway with the Northern Outlaw Sprint Association (NOSA).
Once again, Austin began the night by picking up the heat race win.
After starting fourth in the feature, Austin quickly worked his way up to second behind Jade Hastings, who had a comfortable lead out front.
Once Hastings hit lapped traffic, Austin closed the gap and placed a bid for the lead. On lap 15, Austin put his No. 2A Ostrich powered Schnee into the lead.
Austin enjoyed the lead for several laps until a restart inside of 10 to go was the deciding factor. On the restart, Casey Mack made a three wide pass for the lead to shuffle Austin back to second.
“On that last restart I took off and spun my tires, which allowed Casey to get underneath me and get by both Hastings and I,” said Austin.
Austin had to settle for second at the checkers.
“Second is just the first loser,” he said with a laugh. “But we were happy with second. Hopefully we can get a win in either Grand Forks or Jamestown this weekend.”
This coming Saturday, the NOSA Sprints return toJamestown Speedway for the first time since 2014.
“We won there the last time we raced at Jamestown. We lapped up to second place, actually. We are really looking forward to getting back there.”
