Wade Nygaard Records 3rd Victory of 2017 at River Cities!

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (July 4, 2017) – As the 2017 season rolls into its third full month, the Nygaard Motorsports team seems to be firing on all cylinders. Wade Nygaard picked up his third win of the season last Friday night at River Cities Speedway. Nygaard and Chris Ranten put on a show in the closing laps as the lead duo traded slide jobs at each end of the high-banked three-tenths mile oval.

“I’m glad neither one of us screwed up and got into each other there,” joked Nygaard in victory lane. “It got pretty crazy there. I know both of us wanted it just as bad as the other one.”

After settling into the fourth position in the early going, Nygaard capitalized on a lap five restart to move from fourth to second. Nygaard rode in the tracks of leader, Chris Ranten, for several laps before placing a bid for the lead on the final restart of the race.

With four laps to go, Nygaard dove to the inside of Ranten and completed a slidejob to take the lead exiting turn two, but Ranten’s momentum would carry him back into the lead in turns three and four. Nygaard would repeat that same move the next two circuits before taking the lead for good coming to the white flag.

Nygaard rode the rim around The Bullring the final time unchallenged as he went on to take his 56th career win at River Cities Speedway*.

“I needed those restarts. We had a really tight racecar in the beginning and I was hoping the track would blow off or else we were going to be in trouble,” Nygaard said. “That last five or six laps with Chris was a lot of fun.”

On Saturday night, the Auto Finance Super Center No. 9N unloaded at Greenbush Race Park.

After a third place run in his heat, Nygaard started fifth on the 19-car grid. The nine-time and defending NOSA champion quickly moved into third, but Nygaard’s run stalled out once he reached the final podium position.

The driver of the ICON Architecture Group/Valley Oral machine came around to finish in the third spot, marking his 11th top five finish of the season.
