WEEKEND RECAP: Nygaard Collects Win and Runner-up at Fargo and Grand Forks

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (July 17, 2017) – The Nygaard Motorsports team had another stout weekend with the Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprint Cars last weekend. Wade’s worst finish of the weekend was second after Friday’s and Sunday’s events at River Cities Speedway and Red River Valley Speedway, respectively.

On Sunday, Wade picked up his fourth win of the season after a hard fought battle with Thomas Kennedy.

“That was a fun race,” said Nygaard in victory lane. “We were beating and banging on each other there a little bit, but he gave me the thumbs up after the race so hopefully he’s ok. I just had to keep the car in the rubber on the track. Kennedy found the rubber first, but once I got in it I was able to hold him off.”

Wade didn’t waste any time back in his fourth place starting position as he raced into the lead on lap four.

A pair of incidents slowed the field in the first 10 laps,

On the lap eight restart, Kennedy maneuvered around Austin Pierce to secure the runner-up spot. With Nygaard in his crosshairs, Kennedy looked to close in on the nine-time and defending Northern Outlaw Sprint Association (NOSA) champion.

Nygaard kept Kennedy at bay until the closing stages, when Kennedy placed a bid for the lead with four to go. Kennedy got a run on Nygaard down the front straightaway and tried to drive around the outside of him in turns one and two. Nygaard kept his car in the rubbered up groove, however, and the two banged wheels exiting the corner.

As a result, Nygaard regained the lead entering turn three and opened up a five car length advantage. That’s all he would need to cruise to the win.

On Friday night, Wade raced to a runner-up finish in his heat race at River Cities Speedway, placing him eighth on the starting grid for the main event.

“We finished second in the feature. We had a pretty good car, but kept getting the raw end of the deal on yellow flags,” said Wade. “On those double file restarts, obviously you’re going to choose the better lane. Jade (Hastings) did a good job of choosing and got the win.”
