Hastings, Schill, Jose, Bachmeier & Wilhelmi Collect Devils Lake Speedway Wins
CRARY, N.D. (August 4, 2018) – Weekly racing at Devils Lake Speedway continued Saturday night, featuring the Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA 410 Sprints, the Candian-American Outlaw Sprint Series (CAOSS), and the Professional Dirt Series.
Jade Hastings, Lance Schill, Greg Jose, Lane Bachmeier and Drew Wilhelmi all picked up wins in their respective classes.
“Starting up front was what really helped us out tonight,” said Hastings after the race. “At the beginning of the race, I tried running the bottom but that wasn’t working too well. After the second restart, the rubber started coming in so we set our sails and we were gone. I know Wade [Nygaard] was there the whole time, but it’s really hard to pass on a track like that.”
Fourth place starter, Nick Omdahl, went for the lead in the opening laps but slid off the track.
Nygaard, who started sixth, moved up to second by lap three. Blake Egeland, who was in search of his second win of the weekend after picking up his first career win the night before, ran in the third position.
At the halfway point, Omdahl moved around Egeland to secure a spot inside the top five once again.
A restart with seven laps to go regrouped the field, but Hastings was able to hold off the field as the race resumed.
At the checkers, Hastings took the win over Nygaard, eighth place starter Brendan Mullen, Omdahl and Egeland.
Schill of Langdon raced to the WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature win. Jaden Varnson and Chris Kruk led the field of 13 to the green flag for the 20-lap feature. Varnson led the opening lap, but Kruk took the point on lap two. Schill, who started sixth, quickly made his way into a podium position as he secured the runner-up spot on lap four.
Kruk led Schill and Varnson until Schill made the pass for the lead with six laps remaining. Once out front, Schill set sail and checked out, picking up his division-leading third win of the season at Devils Lake. Kruk, Eric Haugland, Jaden Varnson and Jesse Brekke rounded out the top five.
Greg Jose of Grand Forks claimed his first WISSOTA Street Stock win of the season. The race was paced by Brian Johanson for the first 14 circuits until Jose, who started fifth, took the lead. Steven Richards, who was fresh off a win at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks the previous night, took over second as Johanson slipped back to fifth.
Jose went on to take the checkers over Richards, Bradon Miller, Daniel Aberle and Johanson.
Barry Hermanson led the early going of the Pure Stock feature until Tony Bundy took the lead on lap five. From there, Bundy led until the final circuit. Lane Bachmeier took the point on the final lap and scored the win over Cody Armstrong, Bailey Cousins, Bundy and Daniel Bromstad.
Drew Wilhelmi won the Circle Track Mini Truck feature.
