Late charges make for good points weekend for Nygaard

By Spieker Promotions

GRAND FORKS, ND (August 5, 2020) – Wade Nygaard headed west last weekend with the Auto Finance Super Center / C&M Ford No. 9N to Dacotah Speedway in Mandan, N.D. with the Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprint. He headed into the weekend as the two-time and defending Governor’s Cup champion.

Nygaard’s weekend got off to a great start as he charged from sixth to second in his heat race. Nygaard earned the second-highest passing point total beat only by his teammate Brendan Mullen. An eight invert put Nygaard next to Mullen in the fourth row of the main event.

Nygaard made a steady climb from seventh, eventually passing early leader Zach Omdahl for his final pass of the race, finishing fourth.

Night two started with a heat win from the pole, earning enough points for the sixth starting spot in the main event.

Nygaard passed series point leader Jade Hastings for fourth on lap eight, then chased down Blake Egeland and Mullen for second on lap eleven. Nygaard and Mullen swapped second and third, before Nygaard got the best of the battle with nine laps to go.

While beginning to chase down the leader on the next lap, Nygaard and a lapped car made contact, sending the 9N into a spin, bringing out a caution.

Nygaard was able to charge from 16th to score a top 10 in the final eight circuits.

Though not being much for point racing, Nygaard was able to move into the second spot in the series points, as he chases his 11th NOSA series championship, just 19 markers back of the top spot.

This weekend the No. 9N crew will make their season debut at Norman County Raceway in Ada, Minn. this Thursday. They will then return to River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks. Time trials are at 6:30pm with racing at 7:00pm.
