River Cities puts up bounty as Pierce eyes 9th win of 2020
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (September 18, 2020) – For the second time this season, Austin Pierce is on a winning streak of three-in-a-row at River Cities Speedway with the Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprints. That means it’s bounty time once again for the two-time NOSA champion. River Cities Speedway is putting up a $300 bounty on Pierce if someone can beat him. Since it’s the last race, however, if Pierce wins tonight he will get the $300 that’s up for grabs.
Last weekend, Pierce’s best year of his career continued with another trip to victory lane at River Cities.
The Buffalo Wild Wings NOSA Sprints had 21 cars for 30-laps in the sixth annual Buffalo Wild Wings Blazin’ Challenge on Friday night at the Bullring.
Starting 10th on the grid, Piece took advantage of several restarts to move his way up the running order and into the top five. On lap 16, Pierce moved into a podium position before racing into the lead on a restart with 10 to go. Nick Omdahl went toe-to-toe with Pierce for a few laps, but Pierce was ultimately able to clear for the position.
Pierce checked out and claimed the win.
“I knew I had my work cut out for me starting 10th, but I also knew the guys taking the back row challenge would be coming as well,” continued Pierce. “We got the top working pretty well and sailed around there. I went to the bottom of (turns) one and two on a restart and was able to get by Omdahl.”
The NOSA feature finished just before 2:00am as the night began with an over two-hour rain delay.
“I’m glad we stuck it out through the rain. Just before we were about to get going, I honestly didn’t want to be at the track anymore, but the track did a great job and gave us a really nice racing surface. Hats off to the track guys and all the fans for sticking it out.”
Entering tonight’s race, Pierce has a 21 point lead over Jade Hastings atop the River Cities Speedway point standings.
