Schatz experiences highs and low during Sprint Car week at Volusia

FARGO, N.D. (February 13, 2023) – Donny Schatz’s 27th year with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series got underway at the DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park. Five nights of Sprint Car racing were on tap at the half-mile dirt oval with two nights of Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions action, followed by three nights of World of Outlaws sanctioned racing.

Schatz’s highlight of the week came on Wednesday night during the second night of All Star competition. Early in the feature, Schatz was battling for position inside the top five when he and Anthony Macri made contact. The contact skewed the nose wing on the Advance Auto Parts / Ford Performance No. 15 and Schatz slid back to eighth.

However, Schatz was able to regroup and mount a charge.

Schatz worked his way up to second before flying by leader Carson Macedo. Unfortunately, Schatz’s stint in the lead was brief as the damaged nose wing flipped up on top of the hood after he took the point, further affecting the handling of the car.

Macedo was able to drive back by to take the lead but Schatz held on for second.

The first two World of Outlaws races of the season did not meet expectations as Schatz took the checkers in 14th and 20th, on Thursday and Friday, respectively. During Friday’s feature, he was involved in an incident, not of his doing.

Saturday’s Sprint Car finale at the DIRTcar Nationals was postponed due to rain. The feature will be made up when the series heads back to Volusia on Sunday, March 5.

Schatz and the entire Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing team would like to thank all of their great partners for their continued support!
