Brandon Johnson Sweeps Weekend at Greenbush!
GREENBUSH, Minn. (July 6, 2017) – After enduring three races at four different tracks last week, the Northern Lightning Sprint Association was back at its hometrack last weekend with a pair of events scheduled at Greenbush Race Park.
Beginning on Saturday, the NLSA Sprints were checked in with 17 race teams in attendance.
Brandon Johnson, Eric Johnson, and Alex Truscinski picked up heat race wins.
As the green flag flew over the main event, Dexter Dvergsten drove from third to the lead on the opening lap. Alex Truscinski and Brandon Johnson fought for the second spot on lap two, before Johnson took the position.
From there, Johnson put Dvergsten in his crosshairs and chased down the No. 11. On lap three, Johnson took the point, but Dvergsten came back two laps later to regain the top spot.
After falling back to third on lap six, Johnson mounted a charge forward at the halfway point to get by both Kelsi Pederson and Dvergsten to move back into the lead.
Johnson’s pass for the lead stuck this time as he pulled away from Dvergsten in the second half of the race to take the win by one-and-a-half seconds.
Dvergsten, Pederson, Alex Truscinski, and Zach Kwiatkoski rounded out the top five.
On Saturday, heat race wins went to Brandon Johnson, Brendan Mullen, and Presley Truedson.
Picking up right where he left off in the heat, Brandon Johnson led all 15 laps of the feature after starting in the sixth position. Dexter Dvergsten rode in the second position in the early going, until Kevin Thomas Sr. inherited the spot at the halfway point.
Thomas Sr. set his sights on Johnson as he chased after his sixth win of 2017.
Johnson was too strong, however, as he pulled away from Thomas Sr. and collected the win by just over two seconds.
Thomas Sr., Truedson, Eric Johnson, who started 16th, and Zach Kwiatkoski rounded out the top five.
