Hastings overcomes adversity throughout four-race stretch

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (July 14, 2021) – It was a roller coaster week for Jade Hastings and the Ault Construction-backed SJS Racing team, as a pair of podium finishes highlighted a weekend of mechanical woes.

The team geared up for yet another four-race stretch with the Buffalo Wild Wings Northern Outlaw Sprint Association last week, with the first two races coming at River Cities Speedway during the inaugural Wayne Anderson Cup events.

Hastings started his week third quick in qualifying and fourth in his heat. Those results were good enough to put him back to the grandstands for the feature redraw.

Selecting the number five pill, Hastings rolled off inside the fifth row in the first 30 main event of the week.

Hastings ran as high as second late in the main event, finishing third.

Hastings returned for the second night of the Anderson Cup on Friday night. A ninth-best lap in time trials, and a second place run in his heat sent him back to the redraw.

Hastings started eighth in the second 30 lapper of the week, and was in the second row of a double file restart just past the midway point in the race, when contact at the drop of the green ended his night.

The SJS crew made repairs to head west to Devils Lake Speedway on Saturday night. Qualifying late in the order made for a long night for Hastings. After going 10th quick and finishing fifth in his heat, he rolled out 10th for the 25 lap main event.

The car got better as the race went on, however, as Hastings put on a late charge, going from sixth to third. Hastings finished the race with his second podium in three nights, despite losing brakes towards the end of the race.

The team completed their four race stretch on Sunday at Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, SD. The brake problems continued throughout the night, as a possible top ten went by the wayside as the brake problems eventually ended his night early.

Hastings recapped the long weekend by saying, “To be honest, this weekend was not fun. We ended up changing rear ends three times. We had to rebuild the front end once, and we struggled with a brake problem on Saturday and Sunday that we could not figure out. Sunday night, the weekend was capped off by a rear end blowing up, causing the engine to get hurt also.”

Hastings and crew are gearing up for Friday’s event at River Cities.

Jade and the entire SJS Racing team would like to thank all of their sponsors for their continued support!
